Shipping from overseas versus holding stock in Sydney

An Australian shopper weighs your delivery estimate against local stores that arrive in a few days. Shipping every order from another country means a multi-week estimate at checkout, international postage on every parcel and no easy way for a customer to send anything back. Holding stock in Sydney turns each of those into a domestic order, and turns the sale you were losing at checkout into one you keep.

  • Delivery estimates fall from weeks to days, at the exact step where cross-border carts are abandoned.
  • One bulk shipment into Australia replaces thousands of individual international parcels.
  • Returns come back to a Sydney address and resellable stock goes straight back on sale.
  • Your team does not need to be awake: orders, stock and returns are live on your dashboard.

Guidance from the first conversation

Most overseas brands arrive with the same questions. Do we need an Australian company? How does GST work for us? Who is the importer of record? What does Australian Consumer Law mean for our returns policy? We walk you through what applies to your setup before your first shipment, and point you to the right specialist where a question needs one.

  • Freight: keep the forwarder you trust, or let us manage inbound freight from your supplier to our warehouse.
  • Customs: shipments are cleared by a licensed customs broker, with your business as importer of record in most cases.
  • Setup: products, SKUs and packing specifications configured before your stock lands, so orders ship from day one.
  • Launch: your store connected, stock live, and your first orders shipped under the same published service levels as every client.

What a Sydney warehouse does for an international seller

Inbound freight, managed

If you do not already have a forwarder, we manage the journey from your supplier to our Sydney door, so you are not coordinating a shipment across three time zones.

Receiving your import

The cleared shipment is counted against what you told us to expect, and any discrepancy is reported within 3 business days, before your store starts selling it.

Australian stock, live in your store

Received stock is put away to a recorded location and your Shopify inventory updates from our counts, so Australian customers see what is genuinely on the shelf here.

Australian orders, delivered domestically

Orders flow in from your store automatically. Each item is scanned against the order, packed, photographed and sent with an Australian carrier, the same day for orders in before 2pm AEST.

Onward parcels to other countries

Orders for customers outside Australia can ship from the same stock with Australia Post International, to New Zealand, the US, the UK and beyond, priced on your rate card.

A Sydney returns address

Australian customers return to a local address. Every item is photographed and graded, and sellable units go straight back on sale instead of being written off overseas.

From your supplier to an Australian doorstep

The route your stock takes once it leaves your supplier, with each stage recorded and visible on your dashboard from wherever you are.

  1. Your stock is shipped to Sydney

Your supplier ships in bulk, through your own forwarder or through us. A licensed customs broker clears it, usually with your business as importer of record.

  2. We receive and count it

The delivery is counted against your advance notice. Any shortfall or damage is reported within 3 business days, so you can take it up with your supplier.

  3. Your store sells Australian stock

Counts sync to your Shopify store, so Australian customers see local stock and a local delivery estimate at checkout.

  4. Orders ship domestically

Every order is picked with a scan, packed to your spec, photographed and dispatched the same day if it lands before 2pm AEST. Tracking writes back to the order automatically.

  5. Returns come back to Sydney

Your Australian customers return to a local address. Each item is graded, and sellable units go back on sale for the next order.

International seller questions

Do we need an Australian company to sell from a Sydney warehouse?

No. A foreign business can hold stock here and sell to Australian customers without setting up an Australian company. GST registration is usually the first thing to settle, and we walk you through the options before your first shipment.

Can you manage our inbound freight?

Yes, if you need us to. If you already work with a freight forwarder you trust, keep them and we will coordinate the delivery. If not, we manage the shipment from your supplier to our Sydney warehouse.

Who handles customs and importing?

Shipments are cleared by a licensed customs broker, and in most cases your business is the importer of record. We explain what that involves before the first shipment so nothing is decided at the border.

Do you give GST or tax advice?

We explain how GST and importing usually work for overseas sellers, so you know which questions to ask. Formal tax advice should come from an Australian tax adviser, and we will tell you when a question needs one.

We dropship from an overseas supplier. Can we switch to holding stock here?

Yes. Most sellers start by moving their best-selling lines into Sydney and leaving the long tail with the supplier. Orders for the stocked lines ship from us, and the rest carry on as they do today.

Can you ship to countries outside Australia?

Yes. Orders for customers in New Zealand, the US, the UK and elsewhere can ship from the same Sydney stock with Australia Post International, priced on your rate card.

How is it priced?

Storage is charged on the space your stock occupies. Fulfilment is charged per order, with the pick, the pack and the postage itemised separately, and returns are charged per return. Managed freight is quoted per shipment. You receive a written rate card before you send any stock.

How do we see what is happening from overseas?

Through the same dashboard our floor works in: orders, stock levels, inbound shipments, returns and billing, all live. Anything else goes to a Sydney team that knows your account.
